Gardening for Kids

Here are four sites that present ideas for introducing gardening to kids. You will find lots of activities and suggestions to begin your adventure. Please note that some of these sites have fees associated with the activities and one in a commercial site for gardening in the United Kingdom.

  • Youth programs at the Horticulture Centre of the Pacific, Victoria, BC.
  • It is an internationally recognized centre of life-long learning, conservation and research. The kids programs include festivals, tours, workshops, home learning programs and day camps. Most educational programs have a fee associated with them.

  • A children’s space in a community garden in a Public Park in Seattle, WA.
  • Run by a volunteer committee to create a vibrant, interactive place filled with plants and other feature to delight all the senses. Includes a self-guided scavenger hunt and other adventures.

  • Nonprofit Organization from Burlington, Vermont whose mission is to create opportunities for kids to play, learn and grow through gardening, engaging their natural curiosity and wonder. Has been in operation since 1982.
  • Supporting a community of educators and caregivers to bring life changing benefits of gardening to kinds through grants, contests, curriculum and educational activities. Lots of interesting ideas for kids of different age groups from preschool to grades 11 and 12.

  • A commercial site from the United Kingdom.
  • Presents a guide with 12 steps to introduce kids to gardening and sustainability.
